Gucci History

Gucci, founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci in Florence, Italy, began as a small leather goods and luggage shop. Inspired by the sophisticated luggage he observed while working at luxury hotels in London and Paris, Guccio crafted high-quality equestrian gear and leather products, quickly gaining a reputation for excellence.

During the 1930s and 1940s, Gucci expanded, introducing iconic items like the bamboo-handled bag, which became a hallmark of the brand. The post-war period saw the emergence of the famous green-red-green stripe, inspired by horse saddle girths, and the launch of the double-G logo, symbolizing Guccio’s initials. By the 1950s, Gucci had become a global luxury brand, attracting celebrities like Jackie Kennedy, who popularized the "Jackie" bag.

The 1980s were tumultuous for the company due to family feuds, but Tom Ford’s appointment as creative director in 1994 revitalized Gucci with bold designs that embraced modern glamour. Under Ford, Gucci became a leader in fashion innovation.
